About the Artist
Lourdes C. Denize
Lourdes Constance Denize (Zulmie) is a Haitian-born painter and ceramicist who has spent most of her adult life in the United States. Her passion for painting and writing began at an early age while attending the Lambi Club in Carrefour, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she learned about theater, painting, and culture. Her learning experience expanded when she attended the Manhattan School of Printing in New York City. It was there that she learned about color lines and the beauty of developing and printing images. Her passion for painting never ceased. Before leaving Haiti, her work was characterized by an abstract quality. She delved even further into that style after moving. Her art is not just an image; it is always a subject whose interpretation is based on the observer’s life experience, which can change over time. The joy of her work lies in the journey to the unknown and in discovering oneself through her representations.
As her passion for art grew and her artistic initiatives expanded, she did not share her work with the public until 2018. Since then, her work has been exhibited in Michigan by the Haitian Network Group of Michigan, in Miami’s City Magazine, which printed the announcement of Zulmie’s exhibition at the Stadium Hotel in Miami Gardens for two years, and at various private events. The public has greatly appreciated Zulmie’s art. Now that time has granted her favor, she plans to continue her work in the arts.
